On 11 April, Ann Laevskaya defended her dissertation on the topic “Electronic evidence in civil and economic proceedings in the Republic of Belarus” at the Belarusian State University, and on 21 June the Higher Attestation Commission approved the decision of the dissertation defence committee to award Ann Laevskaya a PhD in Law.
As Ann notes: “Information technology has drastically altered our lives. However, the courts are still prejudiced against emails, correspondence by messenger, SMS, audio- and video- recordings, as well as other forms of electronic evidence. This prejudice impedes and in some cases may even exclude judicial protection of civil rights. The dissertation offers a way to align legislation and law enforcement with IT-intense reality.
