On April 22 and 23 of 2022, an international conference of the European Criminal Bar Association (ECBA) took place in Riga with the support of the Latvian Council of Sworn Advocates, bringing together more than a hundred defence lawyers from different European countries.
Dr.iur. Violeta Zeppa-Priedīte, attorney-at-law, a member of the ECBA and Head of White Collar & Compliance Practice at Sorainen in Latvia, participated in a panel discussion on confiscation and seizure of assets in criminal proceedings with the topic “Confiscation of criminally acquired property – one of the tools to combat money laundering. Reflections from attorney’s-at-law practice”. The topic was presented at the conference by our Dispute Resolution & Risk Management practice group’s associate Krista Niklase.
In addition to confiscation issues, the conference program also covered issues related to the work of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO), with speakers at the panel discussions by prosecutors, and issues related to the relationship between a lawyer and a client.
