We advise the German artificial intelligence defence technology company Helsing on establishing its Estonian subsidiary and investments in Estonia. As part of its expansion, Helsing will invest EUR 70 million in its Estonian branch over the next three years.

Investments strengthen Estonia’s defence capability and the economy

According to Helsing, establishing the company Helsing Estonia helps to increase its operations and presence in the Baltic region. The strategic expansion supports the company’s goal of providing deterrence and protection on NATO’s eastern flank. In cooperation with local partners, Helsing aims to strengthen the Baltic defence infrastructure with advanced AI and software solutions.

Helsing plans to make investments, including the construction of new production buildings. These investments will strengthen local defence capability and bring significant economic benefits to Estonia.

Emphasis on local production

“Strengthening European and NATO borders is a time-critical requirement for the safety of our democracies. We are establishing Helsing Estonia to bring advanced AI capabilities to the Baltic Defence Forces. Learning from the conflict in Ukraine, Helsing will be prioritise local production to ensure that the Baltic defence systems are resilient, adaptable, and homegrown,” said Helsing co-founder and co-CEO Dr Gundbert Scherf.

Helsing has been active in Ukraine since 2022 and recently founded the Defence Manufacturers Alliance with the Ukrainian government. Since its founding in 2021, the company has signed contracts to support allied military capabilities through artificial intelligence.
