Sorainen helped SIA “Novadu Ziņas” – the publisher of Neatkarīgās Tukuma Ziņas – successfully defend their interests before the Latvian Media Ethics council regarding ethics violations committed by the publisher “Tukuma Balss”.
Breaches of the Code of Ethics
On 18 June 2020, in light of a complaint submitted by SIA “Novadu Ziņas”, the Board of Ethics issued an opinion on violations of the Code of Ethics identified in publications by Tukuma Balss.
The Ethics Council found that Tukuma Balss had published insults against the editor-in-chief of Neatkarīgās Tukuma Ziņas, violating the most rudimentary concepts of morality and media culture and contrary to the principle of respect enshrined in the Code of Ethics.
The Ethics Council also established breaches of the principle of integrity: Tukuma Balss had distorted the words from another publication contrary to their original meaning, printed false information on the identity of interviewers, and failed to distinguish opinions from facts in interviews.
