We are representing Ecoservice UAB (“Ecoservice”), a Lithuanian environmental services company and a subsidiary of AS Eco Baltia, during a dispute with Compensa Vienna Insurance Group ADB (Latvian branch) regarding an insurance claim following a fire at Ecoservice’s waste-sorting centre in Vilnius in August 2023.

About the case

The fire caused significant damage, and Ecoservice is seeking €7.4 million in insurance indemnity. Additional compensation for business interruption losses could potentially raise the total claim to over €10 million.

Ecoservice argues that there has been an unreasonable delay in resolving the insurance claim, despite investigations by Lithuanian authorities confirming the circumstances of the fire. These delays have impacted the company’s recovery efforts, as Ecoservice has had to redirect its own resources in order to rebuild. This is an especially serious problem given that Ecoservice provides critical services to the public.

The case is currently being litigated before Riga City Court, where Ecoservice is seeking a fair and timely resolution of the dispute.

Our team

Our team involved in the case includes partner Valts Nerets, counsel Indre Pelėdaitė, senior associates Agita Sprūde and Agneta Rumpa, associate Artūrs Kazāks, and assistant lawyer Paula Šūtava.
