Experts in arbitration since 2011

Law firm Sorainen opened its doors in the Estonian capital of Tallinn in 1995 but says the first seeds of its arbitration practice were sown in 2011. This was due to Estonia adopting legislation that retroactively affected foreign investors, who began asking the firm to analyse the possibility of bringing claims against the state.

In the years that followed, Sorainen started to receive more work from parties seeking to enforce arbitral awards in Estonia and further afield, leading the firm to develop a specialisation in the area.

The Dispute Resolution group is led by partner Carri Ginter in Tallinn, who has been with the firm since 2005. In addition to his practice as a counsel and arbitrator, Ginter has defended Estonian government ministries and Tallinn City Council in court and has acted in cases before the European Court of Justice.

The International Arbitration team is co-headed by partner Maria Pihlak in Tallinn and counsel Ieva Rimavičienė in Vilnius. In addition to Tallinn, the firm has offices in Riga and Vilnius. The Dispute Resolution practices at those offices are led by partners Valts Nerets and Kęstutis Švirinas respectively.
