About me
As head of the firm’s Risk Management and Corporate Crime Investigations practices in Estonia, I have helped many clients avoid and resolve issues. Throughout my legal career, I have handled hundreds of major economic and corruption cases.
Professional highlights
Expert on criminal law and criminal proceedings. Working as a prosecutor for 17 years, I was involved in hundreds of criminal and corruption cases. As Prosecutor General from 2005 to 2014, I was responsible for organising of prosecuting the most significant and high-profile crimes in Estonia, including cases of political corruption.
Making national anti-corruption policy. As Secretary General of the Ministry of Justice in 2014-2017, I was responsible for coordinating national legal policy and know the policy making and rulemaking processes in detail. Among other things, I was responsible for coordinating and implementing our anti-corruption policies and strategies at national level.
Problem solver. I have helped several large international companies conduct internal investigations, identify crimes involving dishonest management, and help restore normal business in the company. I have cooperated effectively with law enforcement agencies to protect the rights of companies that have suffered fraud and corruption, and have helped implement anti-corruption strategies for companies and public authorities, including large hospitals and municipalities.
Academic character. I have given lectures on criminal law and criminal proceedings in universities and co-authored commentaries on several laws. I am a member of the supervisory board of the foundation which publishes the most important Estonian legal magazine: Juridica.
Medals of Merit. In 2003 I was voted Prosecutor of the Year and have been awarded Medals of Merit from the Central Criminal Police, the Tax and Customs Board, the Internal Security Service, the Estonian Forensic Science Institute and the Police and Border Guard Board. In 2014 the Minster of the Interior presented me with an engraved Walther P99 pistol.
