On January 21, the first meeting of this year’s European Commission Expert Group on EU Criminal Policy took place in Brussels, which was also attended by our Head of Corporate Crime Investigations and Compliance Practice, sworn attorney Dr. iur. Violeta Zeppa-Priedīte.
“I am impressed by the strength of the know-how and competencies of the experts in this expert group. Discussions on such non-routine issues as the ‘Future of EU Criminal Law’ and others open up space for ‘out of the box’ thoughts and ideas, which is fascinating. At the same time, it is a pleasure to have space in the discussions to share personal experiences of criminal cases where clients have been assisted in sanctions violations and money laundering criminal cases. I am already looking forward to the next meeting in May!” says Dr. iur. Violeta Zeppa-Priedīte.
About Expert Group
The EU Commission selects twenty experts from scientific and research organisations and legal practitioners every three years to ensure a high level of expertise and, as far as possible, an adequate balance in terms of a range of competencies, geographical origin, and gender, taking into account the specific tasks of the Group and the type of expertise required.
Being part of this expert group means being able to express, within a high-level professional framework, opinions and recommendations on issues of relevance for the European Commission at the level of the European Union in the field of criminal justice.
