As of 6 April 2020 notarial acts can be attested remotely via digitised notary services, in addition to the traditional format of the parties being present at the notary’s office. If the notarial act is attested remotely via digitised notary services, the person is identified via video bridge. Currently, only the holders of an Estonian ID-card or e-resident digital ID card and users of Mobile-ID can be identified and participate remotely.

Remote attestation of a notarial act is voluntary for parties and notaries. It can be used for all acts, except for marriage and divorce. The attested act has to be signed by the participants digitally.

In order to conduct remote attestation smoothly, the participant should make sure that their computer has sufficiently fast internet connection, a functioning webcam and audio system (voice and microphone) and is not limited by a firewall.
