In mid-March this year, Viktorija Soņeca, a PhD student at the Faculty of Law at the University of Latvia, EU Court of Justice Department Director from the Ministry of Justice, joined Sorainen’s Dispute Resolution & Risk Management team.
Viktorija’s knowledge will be a superior addition to the firm’s services. She has invaluable expertise in the following areas: the litigation procedures of the EU Court of Justice, European Union law, advancing initiatives of the European Union and national legislation, and development of national policies and guidelines.
Partner Andris Tauriņš, the head of the Dispute Resolution & Risk Management practice in Latvia, notes: “We are pleased about Viktorija’s decision to strengthen our team. Her decision allows us to provide even better interest representation services in state administration and international dispute resolution forums.”
Viktorija has many years of experience in studying legal issues both as an author and as an editor. The topics she specialises in include interest representation, regulation of lobbying, personal data protection, constitutional law, administrative law (for instance, she co-authored “Civil Offence Law. Explanation of Administrative Liability Law”), and technology issues. As well as this, Viktorija participates in various conferences – at not only the national, but also the international level; she has developed a research paper entitled “Necessity of lobbying regulation in Latvia as a democratic lawful state”, and presently she is working on a study on how sovereignty is affected by technology.
