At the beginning of December this year, the sworn advocate Katrīne Pļaviņa joined law firm Sorainen to develop the Public Administration Relations practice group in Latvia. Her knowledge and experience of public law disputes and regulated sectors will strengthen the office’s expertise in dispute resolution and risk management.
Katrīne Pļaviņa has more than 10 years of experience of public law disputes, especially in the areas of public procurement, data protection and regulated industries. Her competence covers the entire procedural framework of national regulation, from the regulations of the World Trade Organization and the European Union to the technical regulations of the Cabinet of Ministers of Latvia. Katrīne also regularly represents clients’ interests in lobby projects.

Katrīne has previously worked for a leading law firm in Latvia and provided legal assistance in the fields of energy, telecommunications and construction and other key cases in the industry. She also has experience working for the international law firm Sidley Austin LLP in Brussels, specialising in European Union and World Trade Organization law. Katrīne has obtained a master’s degree from the Georgetown University Law Centre with the support of a Fulbright Scholarship. This year, Katrīne completed the MiniMBA programme in Strategic Management at the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga.
Katrīne was admitted to the Latvian Collegium of Sworn Advocates in 2012. She chairs the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Public Procurement Law Committee and represents the EUROCHAMBRES Public Procurement Expert Group at the European Commission. Katrīne is also a lecturer at the Latvian Judicial Training Centre.
Katrīne regularly gives opinions to the Constitutional Court in cases regarding the protection of personal data. Katrīne joins Sorainen’s team of professionals in the field of European personal data protection. The Legal500 directory recommends Katrīne as a data protection expert in the financial and telecommunications industries.
