Sorainen Student Academy 2024-2025

Sorainen Student Academy is a unique, international, and free educational program designed for law students. Held annually from October to April across the three Baltic countries, the program offers workshops, social events, and networking opportunities for selected participants.

Programme of the 2024-2025 season

The core theme of this year’s Sorainen Student Academy is innovation—a key pillar of our culture. Our culture of innovation is ingrained in our DNA. While others might talk a lot about AI, or how the latest legal tools will impact the work of future lawyers, at Sorainen, we don’t just talk about it—we actually do it every day.

This year’s Sorainen Student Academy seamlessly integrates innovation throughout the entire programme. In addition to introducing students to various legal fields, we will also showcase the innovative approaches being implemented, explore cutting-edge legal tools and trends, and discuss how innovation and law intersect.

Selected participants will have access to:

Local workshops dedicated to specific legal fields, featuring the analysis of real cases in an interactive format, including court simulations, negotiation exercises, client representation, and legal services provision
Regional workshop focused on innovation trends in the legal industry
Optional regional project involving negotiations and collaborative teamwork
Networking opportunities with top legal professionals and like-minded peers, both locally and regionally

What we expect from you:

At least one year of law studies completed (Master’s degree students are also welcome)
Fluency in local language (Estonian, Latvian, or Lithuanian)[SB|S1][IS2] [SS3]
Fluency in English (at least B2 level)
Strong academic performance (outstanding academic results and/or active participation in other academic activities)
Eagerness to learn and develop, proactiveness and positive attitude
A broad range of interests

When I saw the opportunity to apply for the Sorainen Student Academy (SSA), I immediately knew I had to take it! I think that SSA is also a great opportunity to get a glimpse into the day-to-day life of a law firm, to see if you are making the right choice to study law, given that bachelor studies provide mostly theoretical knowledge and only minimal practical experience. Graduating from SSA gave me the unique opportunity to apply for an internship at Sorainen. I will not deny that the internship has been challenging so far, but it has been competence enriching. It is because of my internship at Sorainen that I have gained confidence in my choice to study law and dedicate my future to furthering the development of the legal sector. The Sorainen Student Academy programme gives you the excellent opportunity to take the first step in learning about law practice, not from the academic side that you see while sitting on the university bench, but by hearing how best professionals apply law in practice. In SSA classes, top legal professionals tell you about different areas of law and the day-to-day life of a lawyer, including the highs and the challenges they face in their daily lives. Every speaker is eager to answer questions from the students and help them understand everything about working in private law practice. In addition, by spending a large part of the year with motivated fellow students, you create personal bonds with them and feel a part of a community of like-minded people. For anyone considering if it is worth applying, my advice is to be active because this programme can only positively impact your professional and personal life.

I participated in the Sorainen Student Academy in 2023/2024. The highest praise for the project would be that the lectures given by lawyers were that interesting and engaging, that they captured my full attention even after a long day of university studies.
