The awards ceremony was held at London’s Natural History Museum on 12 September, and Irina represented Sorainen along with counsel Lise-Lotte Lääne, regional co-head of the Life Sciences & Healthcare sector group, who was shortlisted as an innovative practitioner.

Strong competition

“We know that competition for rankings in this FT list is very high, and remaining among the Top 30 and even going up is a big achievement,” comments Sorainen partner Laimonas Skibarka.

With there being more than 617 submissions from 128 law firms and 101 in-house legal teams, this is indeed quite a feat.

The law firms were ranked based on criteria such as use of legal practice, business and operational management, data, technology and innovation, ESG approach, and pro bono commitments, as well as policies towards employees. On top of that, the nominees were also assessed on the extent to which they deliver exceptional value to business and the general public.

RSGI, the FT’s research partner, looked at the performance of law firms between April and August, interviewing their clients, senior lawyers, managers and experts.

Financial Times’ Practice of law: best examples in the Legal work list features the most innovative work and legal services that lawyers in Europe have developed for their clients. Sorainen was one of the eight chosen cases and featured on the “commended” list for Deals and Financing:

The firm represented AstraZeneca in striking a partnership with public health authorities in Estonia to improve care for lung cancer patients. AstraZeneca signed the deal in January 2023 alongside other drugmakers. Commended individual: Lise-Lotte Lääne.
