On this Saturday, for the second time in history, World Cleanup Day will take place. We have supported this great cause via pro bono legal work. Originating from the Let’s Do It! campaign, the World Cleanup Day took place for the first time in 2018 when nearly 18 million people from 157 countries joined hands to collect more than 88 tons of trash together in 24 hours.
Sorainen values social responsibility and sustainability
Sorainen’s partner, attorney-at-law Karin Madisson, says that sustainability and environmental consciousness are important values in Sorainen’s operations. “We pay increasing attention to social responsibility and environmental friendliness, both from the perspective of the organisation and society as a whole. In 2019 we were also awarded the Silver Level Corporate Social Responsibility Index. We are delighted that we have been able to help organise something as big as World Cleanup Day in order to work together towards an even more caring future, ” Madisson explained.
Let’s Do It! brings together people from all over the world
The world cleanup is a civic-led mass movement that was born in Estonia in 2008 when 50,000 people came together with a joint goal of cleaning up the entire country from rubbish in just five hours. Since then, the Let’s Do It! one-country-a-day model has been distributed around the world. Over 150 countries and 36 million people have joined the Let’s Do It! international movement over the years. By today, the movement has lead to the creation of one of the world’s largest and most influential international environmental organisations, Let’s Do It World, headquartered in Estonia. The Let’s Do It! foundation is one of the UN’s accredited partners. In 2017, Let’s Do It! was awarded the European Parliaments European Citizen Prize and the UNESCO-Japan Prize.
